Reflection, connection, and purpose. When we pause long enough to be still, we often uncover new ways to lead with intention—for people, animals, and ourselves. This is the beginning of something deeper, and I’m excited to see where it leads.

This past week has been one of new beginnings. From inspiring first meetings centered around innovation to powerful conversations about women making choices in their careers, it’s been a time of reflection—on my personal mission and how it aligns with my work.

My mission has always been clear:

To bring awareness to the interconnected nature / spirit that resides in all living creatures in order to guide people to end suffering, for both humans and animals alike.

JVR, Wildlife in the waterNow it’s time to take this to the next level. Stay tuned!!

I spent some time this week before I presented to a group of women entrepreneurs about this topic and realized that I could dive further into my mission and distill out components that make it more relevant to my work.

I stood in front of this beautiful flock of birds on the Bay and came up with the focus of my meetings.

So, I brought this part of me to both my key meetings this week by starting each with a 2-minute meditation / stillness. In both situations, my audience embraced the opportunity to be present to the stillness prior to diving into work.

Perhaps we don’t take enough of this time for ourselves. I take my meditation practice for granted, having been raised on it, but maybe this is truly something that needs to be brought to the forefront of my work with others, who know me as the scientist, the data lover, the veterinarian. Perhaps showing that you can be productive and intelligent and committed, while being contemplative and present to the stillness, is ok and even necessary.

This feels like the beginning of something bigger. Let’s see where it leads.
